At its core, our evaluation framework is built on a simple yet profound insight: evaluation is fundamentally about valuing energy flows. This perspective transforms evaluation from a static measurement exercise into a dynamic practice of tracking how energy moves, transforms, and creates value within living systems.
Energy flows manifest in multiple ways:

Across social and cultural exchanges
When we track these flows, we’re observing how systems complexify and evolve toward greater wholeness. This approach aligns with living systems thinking, which recognizes that value emerges from relationships and interactions rather than isolated components.1
Multi-capital Framework
The multi-capital framework provides a comprehensive lens for understanding the diverse forms of value that flow through regenerative systems. Unlike conventional approaches that prioritize financial metrics, our framework recognizes eight interconnected forms of capital:
Natural Capital
Ecological assets including ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resources.

Human Capital

Economic Capital
Financial resources and economic assets.

Political Capital

Built Capital
Physical infrastructure, technology, and built environment.

These capitals don’t exist in isolation-they flow into and transform one another. For instance, social capital might enable the mobilization of economic capital, which in turn could be invested in restoring natural capital.
Five Systemic Spheres
To understand how capital flows affect systemic change, we evaluate across five interconnected spheres that represent different domains of collective life:
Cultural Sphere
The realm of values, beliefs, narratives, and meaning-making.

Economic Sphere
The domain of resource flows, exchange systems, and value creation.

The arena of governance, power dynamics, and decision-making processes.

These spheres provide a holistic framework for tracking how capital flows contribute to regenerative development across multiple dimensions of systemic health.
The interconnection between capitals and spheres creates a dynamic matrix for evaluation. For example, we might track how social capital (trust-building) in the cultural sphere enables new forms of collaboration in the economic sphere, which in turn supports ecological restoration work.
By mapping these relationships, we can identify leverage points for intervention and understand how change in one area ripples through the entire system-revealing the true complexity and potential of regenerative work.
